Vietnam to host 7,000 athletes at Sports Festival 2026

Vietnam is preparing to host around 7,000 athletes for the Sports Festival 2026, scheduled for early August. The event will feature the inaugural International Martial Arts Festival in Hanoi's Imperial Citadel of Thang Long from August 7‑9, showcasing a wide range of sports competitions and cultural performances.

The festival is part of a broader push by Vietnamese authorities to link sport, culture and heritage. Officials have highlighted the need to transform cultural assets into digital and economic resources, with UNESCO urging community participation in heritage digitisation. Parallel initiatives include a cultural pho roadshow in Europe, a film screening in Laos, and efforts to strengthen Vietnam‑Laos and Vietnam‑Thailand ties through cultural exchange.
