Vietnam trade with Cambodia rises as Southeast Asian textile exports grow

Vietnam's trade with Cambodia saw significant shifts in the first eight months of 2026. Total bilateral trade reached nearly $8.67 billion, an 8.4% increase compared to the previous year, while the trade deficit narrowed to $9 million. Vietnam's exports to Cambodia rose 13.8% to $4.29 billion, driven largely by agricultural products—with fruit and vegetable exports surging 125% and coffee increasing 89.5%—as well as textiles and steel.

On a broader scale, the global textile supply chain is undergoing restructuring as U.S. buyers diversify to manage tariff impacts and risks. Data from the Office of Textiles and Apparel (OTEXA) shows a significant decline in garment exports to the U.S. from traditional major suppliers like China, which fell 34.11%, and India, which dropped 25.65%.

In contrast, Southeast Asian nations are seeing growth or stability. Cambodia's garment exports to the U.S. grew by 10.89%, and Indonesia saw a 3.10% increase. Vietnam maintained relative stability in its U.S. garment market, recording only a slight decrease of 0.68% to $9.37 billion.
