Vietnam traffic police fine motorbike riders on sidewalks and drivers for illegal parking

On June 11, the traffic police (CSGT) in Ho Chi Minh City fined 529 motorbike owners for riding on sidewalks in the districts of Gò Vấp, Bình Thạnh and Phú Nhuận. The violations were recorded between May 1 and June 5, and the offenders face penalties of 4–6 million VND and a two‑point licence deduction, according to Decree 168/2024. The police said the practice endangers pedestrians and will be combated with increased patrols and cold‑fine enforcement.

In the same period, the CSGT in Tuyên Quang province issued a 900 000 VND fine to driver V.M.S. for parking in a prohibited area, while CSGT in Thái Nguyên province fined driver C.V.D. 5 million VND and deducted two licence points for illegal overtaking. Both cases were reported after citizens recorded the infractions and submitted the footage to the police, prompting verification and summons of the drivers.
