Vietnam traffic police issue late speed fines for hundreds of drivers and detain youth for assaulting officers

Between 1 June and 15 June 2026, traffic police in Thanh Hóa province used technical equipment to record 455 speed‑limit violations on National Highway 1, while a similar operation in Bắc Ninh province identified 660 violations from 29 June to 5 July. The authorities have issued a detailed list of "late" fines for each offending vehicle and urged the public to settle the penalties promptly.

In a separate incident in Hưng Yên province, police stopped two motorcyclists on road DT379 on 6 July 2026. The passenger, 17‑year‑old Hà Văn Bằng, brandished a three‑metre iron tube fitted with a sharp blade and attacked the officers, prompting the police to charge him with obstructing officials. He was placed in pre‑trial detention on 8 July 2026 under Article 330 of the Criminal Code. The driver was handed over to his family for supervision.
