Vietnam Traffic Police Record 2.39 Million Violations, Fatalities Drop in H1 2026

Vietnam's Traffic Police Department reported handling over 2.39 million traffic violations in the first half of 2026, while road accidents fell to 7,773 cases. Fatalities declined by 8.4% to 4,877 deaths and injuries dropped 28% to 4,486. Compared with the same period in 2025, accidents were down 17.4%.

Speeding was the most common offence (≈592,000 violations), followed by drink‑driving (≈416,900), illegal stopping/parking (≈208,000) and lane violations (≈101,000). Authorities suspended nearly 64,730 licences, deducted points in more than 336,000 cases and impounded about 528,800 vehicles. Digital tools identified over 20,000 violations via cameras and 2,864 cases from public reports on online platforms. The police also seized significant illegal goods, including heroin, synthetic drug pills and illegally extracted sand.

The department highlighted ongoing modernisation through artificial intelligence, an expanded public service portal processing 4.11 million transactions, and the VNeTraffic mobile app installed by over eight million users. It pledged continued enforcement and public‑awareness campaigns to improve road safety nationwide.
