Vietnam intensifies DNA testing to identify war martyrs

Across several provinces in Vietnam, authorities are conducting large-scale operations to identify war martyrs through DNA testing. In Ho Chi Minh City, 7,104 biological samples from unidentified remains were transported via a CASA-295 military aircraft to the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology in Hanoi for analysis.

Other regional efforts include Dien Bien province, which handed over 800 samples to the Military Forensic Institute, and Tay Ninh, which completed DNA sampling for 15,336 graves. In Hanoi, crews at Mai Dich Cemetery have excavated 205 remains to facilitate the identification process. Additionally, in An Giang and Can Tho, over 1,600 samples were prepared and transferred for forensic examination.

These operations are part of a nationwide campaign to provide closure to families of fallen soldiers by matching DNA from remains with samples provided by relatives.
