Vietnam university admissions close as Tuyen Quang exam scandal unfolds

The nationwide university admission system will close at 17:00 on 14 July 2026. By 17:45 on 13 July, 797 722 candidates had registered, submitting 6 333 326 programme wishes, of which 420 138 targeted STEM fields (2 093 942 STEM wishes). Candidates have one day left to finalise and confirm their preferences before the system shuts.

At the same time, the Ministry of Education and Training confirmed that the 328 candidates who sat the exam at the specialised high‑school in Tuyên Quang will still be able to register for university admission under the regular timetable. Authorities are investigating alleged irregularities in the mathematics scores at that site—19 suspects have been indicted for abusing official duties and facilitating cheating. The Ministry says that unless a candidate is proven to have violated exam or admission rules, their registration proceeds normally, and any disciplinary action will follow established procedures.

Officials also warned students about common registration errors—such as failing to confirm OTP codes or entering incorrect programme codes—and advised a careful review of preferences before the deadline.
