Vietnam education sector undergoes major restructuring for 2026 school year

Vietnam is undergoing significant educational reforms and preparations for the 2026-2027 academic year. Across various provinces, authorities are restructuring school networks to improve efficiency. In Hanoi, the reorganization has led to a reduction of over 2,360 principals and vice-principals while increasing the number of direct teaching staff by nearly 25,000. Similarly, Cao Bang province expects to reduce its number of educational institutions by approximately 43 percent through consolidation.

In border regions such as Lai Chau and Quang Tri, significant investments are being made in boarding school infrastructure to support students in remote areas. In Quang Tri, four major boarding school projects with a total investment exceeding 1,060 billion VND are being fast-tracked for completion.

Regarding higher education, the supplementary admission period for universities begins on August 22, 2026. Many institutions, including both public and private universities, have announced thousands of remaining slots for students who did not secure placement in the first round. Meanwhile, educational authorities are also addressing the need for better integration of youth union activities within private and international schools to ensure comprehensive student development.
