Vietnam unveils national AI strategy to reach top 10 in Asia by 2045
Vietnam has approved a National Strategy on Artificial Intelligence through 2030, with a vision toward 2045, aiming to become one of the top 10 Asian nations in AI research, development, and mastery. The strategy, signed by Deputy Prime Minister Ho Quoc Dung, focuses on a comprehensive national transformation by shifting from merely applying AI to using it as a core capability for governance, production, and services.
Key economic targets for 2030 include positioning Vietnam among the top three Southeast Asian countries in AI R&D, reaching an AI economy value of approximately 6% of GDP, and generating $5 billion in AI-related exports. The government aims to develop at least five national AI platforms, 10 international-standard AI brands, and eight Vietnamese-language AI models. Additionally, the plan seeks to integrate AI into 100% of online public services and administrative procedures.
To support these goals, the strategy emphasizes human resource development, infrastructure, and data as foundational pillars. In a related development, the Vietnam-China Dialogue on AI and Digital Economy 2026 was held in Hanoi to promote technological cooperation and co-creation. Meanwhile, Google Vietnam highlighted local innovation by showcasing 50 stories of Vietnamese individuals and businesses successfully utilizing AI to enhance productivity and community impact.
