Vietnam unveils revised airport development plan for 36 airports by 2030

The Vietnamese Ministry of Construction approved a revised national airport system plan covering the 2021‑2030 period and a vision to 2050. The plan adds seven new airports, raising the total to 36 facilities – 19 international and 17 domestic – with an estimated design capacity of about 249 million passengers per year and an investment need of roughly VND 577.57 trillion (≈ USD 22 billion).

By 2050 the network is slated to expand to 37 airports, including a second international airport for the Hanoi metropolitan area, bringing the combined capacity to roughly 533.5 million passengers annually. The revision also expands aviation logistics hubs at airports handling 250,000 tons of cargo or more and earmarks aircraft maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) facilities at major sites such as Vân Đồn, Nội Bài, Gia Bình, Chu Lai, Tan Son Nhat and Long Thanh.
