Vietnam updates driving exams and launches road safety campaigns

Vietnam's Traffic Police Department is implementing new measures to improve road safety through updated driver testing and nationwide training campaigns.

Starting March 1, 2027, car driving license examinations will include specific practical tests for high-speed lane usage and overtaking. According to Circular 108/2026/TT-BCA, candidates must demonstrate the ability to accelerate, change lanes to overtake, and safely return to the original lane. This change aims to optimize traffic flow by maintaining dedicated lanes for high-speed vehicles and overtaking.

Simultaneously, a nationwide campaign to train safe motorcycle and moped riding skills is underway, scheduled to run through the end of 2026. The initiative focuses on teaching observation skills, handling unexpected situations, and avoiding blind spots. The campaign specifically targets high-risk groups, including individuals aged 30 to 55 and teenagers aged 16 to 18, to reduce road accidents and improve driving habits.
