Vietnam strengthens digital intellectual property protections

Vietnam is intensifying efforts to protect intellectual property (IP) rights within the digital environment to support its growing digital economy and cultural industries. Data from the Vietnam Music Copyright Center (VCPMC) indicates that in 2025, copyright revenue reached over 424.3 billion VND, with nearly 298 billion VND generated specifically from digital websites and applications.

To address legal and technological bottlenecks, the government has issued Decision No. 1624/QD-TTg, amending the Intellectual Property Strategy through 2030. This strategy emphasizes comprehensive digital transformation, including the digitization of IP data and the deployment of online public services. The policy aims to utilize new technologies to monitor, identify, and provide early warnings for IP infringements on digital platforms.

Experts at recent workshops, including representatives from Nhan Dan Newspaper, have called for a shift from reactive violation handling to proactive management. Proposed solutions include building a unified infrastructure for identifying works and authenticating rights holders, potentially utilizing blockchain technology to track the lifecycle of creative products from creation to distribution.
