Vietnam urban development projects spark land and airport concerns

In northern Vietnam's Gia Bình district, large‑scale urban development plans are prompting worries among residents about land loss, compensation and livelihood impacts. The proposed projects, covering hundreds of hectares, raise questions over how benefits will be shared and whether the transition will be fair and transparent.

Meanwhile, Ho Chi Minh City is evaluating the need for additional international airport capacity as it aims to welcome up to 11 million foreign visitors this year and 18 million by 2030. Officials argue that the existing Long Thanh and Tan Son Nhat airports must be coordinated to meet the growing demand from tourism, conferences and foreign business delegations, supporting the city's ambition to become a leading regional hub for events and finance.
