Vietnam waste-to-energy project targets net-zero goals

A collaborative project between the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), Toyo Fujiko Co., Ltd., Toyo Energy Solution Co., Ltd., and the Vietnam National University of Agriculture (VNUA) is working to promote the production of electricity and organic fertilizer from solid waste.

Scheduled to run from May 2022 to December 2026, the initiative aims to support Vietnam’s commitment to net-zero emissions by 2050. The project utilizes methane fermentation technology to convert organic waste, such as food and livestock waste, into biogas for power or heat generation, while the remaining liquid can be repurposed as organic fertilizer for agriculture.

The project seeks to demonstrate the feasibility of this Japanese technology within the specific operating conditions of Vietnam, addressing the urgent need for sustainable waste management and renewable energy production.
