Vietnam weather: Cold air mass brings heavy rain and temperature drops
A seasonal cold air mass is impacting Vietnam, bringing significant weather changes across the country. In Northern Vietnam, temperatures are dropping, with nighttime lows reaching 21-24 degrees Celsius and mountain areas potentially falling below 19 degrees Celsius. The arrival of this cold air has triggered widespread rain and thunderstorms in the North, including Hanoi, where heavy rainfall has already caused localized urban flooding.
Central Vietnam, the Central Highlands, and Southern Vietnam are also facing heavy rainfall. Forecasts indicate substantial precipitation, with some areas expected to receive over 120mm to 180mm. This widespread rain poses high risks of flash floods, landslides in mountainous regions, and urban flooding in low-lying areas.
In the East Sea, a low-pressure area has a high probability of strengthening into a tropical depression within the next 1-2 days. Maritime conditions are also deteriorating, with the Gulf of Tonkin experiencing strong northeast winds reaching levels 6, with gusts of 7-8, and waves reaching 2-3 meters.
