Vietnam weather shifts from heatwaves to widespread thunderstorms

Vietnam is experiencing a transition from intense heatwaves to widespread thunderstorms. In Northern Vietnam, the heatwave is expected to subside as afternoon and evening thunderstorms arrive, with temperatures in areas like Hanoi expected to drop toward 30°C by August 19. However, some northern provinces may still see temperatures between 35-36°C during the day.

Heavy rainfall is forecast for several regions, including Northern Vietnam, Thanh Hoa, Nghe An, the Central Highlands, and Southern Vietnam. Rainfall amounts are expected to range from 10-30mm, with localized areas receiving over 70mm. These storms carry risks of lightning, hail, and strong wind gusts.

Authorities have issued warnings for flash floods and landslides, particularly in Lai Chau and Quang Tri provinces. In Central Vietnam, heatwaves are expected to persist for approximately five more days, with temperatures potentially exceeding 37°C. Maritime warnings are also in effect for the South China Sea, noting high waves and potential squalls.
