Vietnam weather: Flooding and deaths in North, heatwave in Central

Vietnam is experiencing severe weather extremes across different regions. Following the impact of Typhoon Narra, heavy rainfall and flooding have caused significant damage, including three deaths in Lang Son and Dien Bien, and three injuries in Hanoi, Son La, and Quang Ninh. The flooding has affected thousands of homes and vast areas of agriculture, with over 32,000 hectares of rice and crops submerged.

In the North, heavy rain and thunderstorms are expected to continue, with a significant period of intense rainfall forecasted between August 29 and August 31. This brings risks of flash floods, landslides, and localized flooding. Conversely, Central Vietnam is facing a widespread heatwave, with temperatures in some areas expected to exceed 38 degrees Celsius. This heatwave is projected to last until approximately August 30.

In the South and Central Highlands, weather patterns include sunny days with scattered showers and thunderstorms in the evenings. Authorities have warned residents to remain vigilant against lightning, hail, and strong wind gusts during storm activity.
