Vietnam weather forecast: Cold air and heavy rain expected

Vietnam is facing significant weather transitions in September. The National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting reports that a weak early-season cold air mass is expected to reach Northern Vietnam around September 9-10, bringing cooler temperatures and scattered showers.

Central Vietnam is entering its rainy season, with heavy, prolonged rainfall forecasted between September 10 and 15. This brings risks of localized flooding in plains and landslides or flash floods in mountainous regions. The Central Highlands and Southern Vietnam are also expected to see increased rainfall due to strengthening southwest monsoon winds between September 9 and 13.

Regarding long-term trends, meteorologists note that El Nino is maintaining strong intensity, with a 95% probability of remaining strong through late 2026. This phenomenon may lead to a 20-40% rainfall deficit in Northern and Central regions during September, despite the risk of extreme localized storms. Additionally, 2-3 tropical storms or depressions are expected in the East Sea this month, with 1-2 potentially impacting the mainland.
