Northern Vietnam faces heavy rainfall and flood risks
Northern and North Central Vietnam are bracing for a period of intense rainfall from the night of August 17 through August 21. The National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting warns that a tropical convergence zone passing through the southern Red River Delta and North Central region will trigger widespread heavy rain.
In many provinces, including Hanoi, Quang Ninh, and Thanh Hoa, total rainfall is expected to range between 150-300mm, with some areas potentially exceeding 450mm. Other provinces such as Lai Chau and Cao Bang may see between 100-200mm, with localized amounts over 300mm. This weather pattern carries a high risk of flash floods, landslides on steep slopes, and urban inundation.
Meanwhile, the Central region continues to experience heat, with temperatures in some areas reaching 35-37 degrees Celsius. In the South and Central Highlands, intermittent showers and thunderstorms are expected, with some localized heavy rain exceeding 80mm.
