Vietnam wood exports grow amid shifts in US, China, and Japan markets

Vietnam's wood and wood product exports reached approximately $1.6 billion in July, marking a 3.9% increase from the previous month and an 8.5% increase compared to the same period in 2025. For the first seven months of the year, cumulative export turnover for this sector exceeded $10 billion, up 5.6%.

While the United States remains the largest market, accounting for about 50% of total turnover, exports to the U.S. fell by approximately 6% year-on-year. The U.S. Department of Commerce (DOC) recently issued a final determination regarding anti-dumping and countervailing duties on hard plywood and decorative plywood from Vietnam. Although the final anti-dumping duty of 84.95% is significantly lower than the preliminary estimate of 196.14%-199.69%, it remains a substantial barrier for exporters.

In contrast, China and Japan have shown strong growth. Exports to China reached over $1.5 billion in the first seven months, a 46.4% increase, raising China's market share to approximately 15%. Exports to Japan totaled more than $1.26 billion, a 6% increase compared to the previous year, maintaining Japan's position as Vietnam's third-largest wood product market.
