Vietnamese banks expand insurance market presence
Vietnamese banks are aggressively expanding their presence in the insurance sector through capital increases and strategic partnerships. VPBank is preparing to launch VPLife, a life insurance subsidiary with an expected charter capital of 2,000 billion VND, slated for operation in the first quarter of 2027. Additionally, VPBank's non-life insurance arm, OPES, recently increased its charter capital to 2,451 billion VND.
Techcombank is also scaling its insurance operations. Following the establishment of Techcom Non-Life Insurance in 2024, the bank plans to launch Techcom Life in 2025. Techcombank intends to increase its investment in Techcom Life to a total charter capital of 4,300 billion VND. Meanwhile, ACB has entered the non-life insurance market with ACB Insurance, which holds a charter capital of 500 billion VND.
In a separate strategic move, BVBank has signed a partnership agreement with FWD Vietnam. This collaboration focuses on distributing FWD's life insurance products through BVBank's retail banking network to enhance its financial ecosystem.
