Vietnamese banks MB and HDBank announce major bond issuances
Vietnamese commercial banks are actively expanding their capital through significant bond issuances.
MB (Military Commercial Joint Stock Bank) completed the issuance of two bond lots totaling 1,800 billion VND in late August 2026. These bonds have maturities of five and six years, with fixed interest rates of 8.5% and 9% per annum, respectively. This follows a previous successful issuance of 500 billion VND in mid-August. Additionally, MB has been increasing its charter capital through stock dividends and rights offerings, raising its charter capital from 80,550 billion VND to 92,632 billion VND.
HDBank has announced a plan to issue up to 20,000 billion VND in public bonds. The issuance is planned in three stages between the fourth quarter of 2026 and the fourth quarter of 2027. These non-convertible, unsecured bonds are classified as subordinated debt to qualify as Tier 2 capital. The interest rates will be floating, based on a reference rate from major banks plus a maximum margin of 3.30% per annum. The proceeds are intended to supplement business capital, specifically targeting production and agriculture.
