Vietnam police warn of AI-driven vehicle registration and identity scams
Police in Vietnam are issuing urgent warnings regarding increasingly sophisticated online scams utilizing Artificial Intelligence (AI). In Quang Ngai province, authorities have identified a trend where criminals use AI and advanced image editing tools to forge vehicle registration certificates. These highly realistic forgeries are used to deceive victims during online vehicle transactions, often via social media platforms like Facebook, Zalo, and Telegram, leading to the theft of deposits or payments.
Beyond vehicle fraud, cybersecurity experts warn of broader AI-driven psychological manipulation. Scammers are using AI to create fake identities and deepfake images of acquaintances to build long-term trust before soliciting money. In Hanoi, police recently prevented a case where a woman nearly transferred significant savings to a scammer using AI-generated personas. Experts emphasize that criminals are now using collected personal data to create personalized scam scripts, making them effective even against highly educated individuals.
