Vietnamese court reopens inheritance case of late actor Đức Tiến

The Ho Chi Minh City Court of Appeals has scheduled a new hearing for the inheritance dispute over the estate of the deceased actor Đức Tiến. The case, involving his widow Nguyễn Bình Phương and his mother Nguyễn Ngọc Ánh, was paused to allow forensic verification of the signature on a will drafted in the United States and to reassess the value of the contested assets.

New expert analysis concluded that the signature on the U.S. will dated 9 August 2023 does not match other known samples, raising questions about its legality. The court also updated the valuation of the estate’s two properties—a house in Ho Chi Minh City and a land parcel in Long An (now Tây Ninh)—to more than VND 8.7 billion, higher than the earlier estimate. The hearing is set for 11 August, and the court will determine how the assets should be distributed if the will is deemed invalid.
