Vietnam actor Duc Tien inheritance dispute: Will invalidated

Overview

The civil-court battle in Ho Chi Minh City over the estate of the late actor Duc Tien has reached a definitive ruling. Following a forensic examination commissioned by the appellate court, which concluded that the signature on a U.S.-drawn will dated 9 August 2023 did not match known samples from 2009–2023, the High People’s Court officially invalidated the document.

Because the will was deemed legally invalid, the court overturned previous rulings that had favored the actor’s widow, Nguyen Binh Phuong, and ordered the estate to be divided according to law. The contested assets, which include a house in Thu Duc and land in Long An (now Tay Ninh), were re-valued at more than VND 8.7 billion.

Under the final appellate ruling, the distribution is as follows: Duc Tien’s daughter, who is a minor, is to receive over 1.412 billion VND, with the widow acting as legal guardian. The widow is entitled to over 3.58 billion VND and rights to land in Linh Dong and Long An, but she is required to reimburse the actor’s mother, Nguyen Ngoc Anh, approximately 3.014 billion VND.
