Vietnamese Teacher Charged Over Exam Cheating in Tuyên Quang High School Graduation Test

Teacher Nguyen Ha Duy, a 1998‑born staff member at Tuyên Quang Specialized High School, was indicted for abusing his position by guiding students on math questions during the 2026 high‑school graduation exam. The police also opened investigations into three other suspects, including deputy principal Tran Thi Thu Hăng, who is alleged to have directed staff to violate exam regulations. The scandal emerged after the Ministry of Education released exam results showing an unusually high concentration of perfect or near‑perfect math scores among Tuyên Quang candidates, prompting concerns over the fairness and transparency of the nationwide exam.

The incident has sparked public debate on strengthening exam security and revising the graduation‑exam regulations. Experts suggest amendments to require students who witness cheating to report it safely and to protect whistle‑blowers, aiming to close gaps in current rules that focus on exam officials but do not obligate candidates to act when they observe irregularities.
