Vietnamese youth volunteers launch Green Summer aid projects across Laos
In June 2026 the Ho Chi Minh City volunteer programme, known as Green Summer, deployed 67 volunteers to five provinces in Laos. The teams provided medical examinations and free medicines to nearly 2,000 residents, delivered school supplies, installed clean‑water systems, renovated schools and built Friendship Houses, strengthening Vietnam‑Laos community ties.
At the same time, Vietnam announced a series of domestic initiatives: new regulations require external batteries to be carried only in hand luggage on flights; fireworks will mark the 50th anniversary of the city’s renaming after Ho Chi Minh; a marathon in Hanoi will feature 15,000 athletes. Authorities safely destroyed an MK‑82 bomb discovered in Nghe An and launched a nationwide DNA campaign to identify remains of missing war martyrs. The government also began training 35,000 railway workers for upcoming high‑speed projects, tested a drone‑detection system at Da Nang airport, and held discussions with UNICEF and climate‑housing experts in Da Nang.
