Vietnam youth volunteer and Green Summer drive
Overview
Since mid‑May 2026 Ho Chi Minh City has hosted domestic and cross‑border programmes, including business forums with Australian firms and EU officials on trade, energy transition and green logistics. In June a labour‑and‑housing forum in Tan Định and a scientific conference in Phú Thọ marked President Ho Chi Minh’s historic cooperative visit. The city’s volunteer force then turned outward, delivering medical exams, school supplies, clean‑water installations and Friendship Houses to Lao provinces under the “Green Summer” banner. By late June the outreach grew to 67 volunteers supporting medical care, school renovations and water‑system projects in five Lao provinces, while Vietnam introduced measures on battery transport, DNA identification of war‑martyr remains, bomb disposal, high‑speed‑rail training, drone detection and climate‑housing talks. Early July saw over 3,800 university students mobilised in Nghệ An and Đồng Tháp to build rural roads, run STEM and AI workshops, digitise historic photos and assist border communities. A youth contingent operated in Xieng Khouang, Laos, deepening bilateral solidarity. On 7 July the Youth Volunteer Force reported 600 trees planted, a “Patriotic Flag Road” created and cultural workshops in Bình Phước and Vĩnh Long, while a nationwide “Green Summer 2026” campaign mobilised nearly 2,500 volunteers, including an Australian student, across Vietnam. On 12 July more than 1,000 volunteers from two universities launched the 33rd Green Summer, deploying 31 teams to Ho Chi Minh City and the provinces of Tây Ninh, Lâm Đồng, Đồng Tháp and Vĩnh Long. Projects span community development, environment, culture, tourism and a new “Digital Summer” unit that assists residents with online services and digital‑skill training.
