Vietnam's banks push toward AI‑native transformation

Vietnam's banking sector, after years of investment in digital channels, data platforms and automation, is preparing for a shift to AI‑native operations. Generative AI, large language models and multi‑task AI systems are being evaluated for organization‑wide value, moving beyond earlier uses such as credit scoring, fraud detection and chat‑bots. An EY‑Parthenon survey predicts that 77 % of banks will have deployed or piloted generative AI by 2025, up from 61 % in 2023. The industry is distinguishing two approaches: “AI‑enabled” banking, where AI tools augment isolated customer touch‑points or processes, and “AI‑native” banking, which embeds AI as a core capability built into the bank’s architecture, data governance and risk framework.

The shift aims to integrate AI across end‑to‑end workflows, improve decision‑making speed, and generate measurable business outcomes, while ensuring reliable data and compliance with banking risk standards.
