Vietnam's bridge and road projects stalled by land clearance and material shortages

In Da Nang, 21 bridge projects are delayed because the connecting roads have not been built. In Hanoi and the surrounding provinces, more than ten major transport initiatives—including seven Red River bridges and sections of Beltway 4—are confronting similar setbacks. While land acquisition is largely complete, a scarcity of fill material, soaring construction‑material prices and a 30‑50 % rise in diesel fuel costs have squeezed contractors, reducing progress to roughly 15‑20 % on the bridges and varied completion rates on the beltway sections. Officials urge swift resolution of these material and cost issues to keep the projects on schedule.
