Vietnam's Cau River dredging project slated for 2026-2029 amid Da Nang flood‑mitigation delays

The Ministry of Construction has added a dredging project on the Cau River to its list of waterway and maritime projects. The work will cover the river section from km 87+150 to km 104+000, spanning the left bank in Bắc Ninh province and the right bank in Thái Nguyên province. The project is scheduled for 2026‑2029, with the Thái Nguyên People's Committee leading implementation, coordinated with the Vietnam Maritime Administration and Inland Waterways Authority. Monitoring will ensure safe waterway traffic, prevent illegal sand extraction and aim to reuse recovered material for national transport projects.

In Da Nang, the Hòa Cầm traffic‑node infrastructure project, approved in 2012 with an original budget of about VND 43 billion, remains incomplete after nearly 15 years. The first sub‑area was finished in 2021, but the second sub‑area, which includes flood‑prevention works, is stalled due to unresolved land‑acquisition cases, legal disputes and sharply increased compensation costs. Authorities estimate a new investment of VND 112 billion, of which VND 74 billion would cover compensation. Residents continue to endure seasonal flooding, sewage buildup and poor sanitation. The city government is considering terminating phase 1 and launching a fresh investment study for the remaining area.
