Vietnam's Côn Sơn Island Named Top Off‑Grid Destination by Lonely Planet

Lonely Planet has added Vietnam’s Côn Sơn Island to its 2026 list of the world’s most distinctive off‑grid destinations. The 51.5 km² island, the largest in the Côn Đảo archipelago, ranks third globally and is the sole representation from Vietnam. The guide highlights its clear waters, green hills, long beaches and low‑key, non‑mass‑tourism atmosphere.

Côn Sơn also bears historic significance, housing the former Côn Đảo prison complex and several war‑era sites. Nature attractions include turtle‑nesting beaches, coral‑rich diving spots and hiking routes such as Bãi Ông Đụng and Sở Rẫy. The island’s tourism infrastructure centres around its airport, hotels and museums, offering controlled wildlife‑watching programmes during peak turtle‑hatching months.
