Vietnam's community tourism villages draw thousands, lifting rural incomes
Vietnam's community‑based tourism villages are attracting increasing numbers of visitors while providing direct economic benefits to local residents. Tan Hoa in Quang Tri province, named UN World Tourism’s Best Tourism Village 2023, has reduced extreme poverty and now employs over 100 villagers, welcoming more than 10,000 tourists each year with activities such as cave exploration, off‑road rides and homestay meals. In the highlands, Sin Suoi Ho of Lai Chau province earned the ASEAN Community‑Based Tourism Award in 2023; about 20 households run eco‑friendly homestays and cafés, offering trekking, waterfall visits and traditional crafts. Tra Que near Da Nang, acclaimed as the Best Tourism Village 2024, combines organic vegetable farming with tourism, involving over 200 households that host visitors for farm work and local‑cuisine experiences. The model emphasizes cultural preservation, sustainable practices and direct income generation for rural communities across Vietnam.
