Vietnam Sets Two‑Digit Growth Goal for Cities While Launching War‑Hero Remains Search

Vietnam’s central and local governments reaffirmed ambitious economic targets for 2026. Hanoi’s mayor Vũ Đại Thắng said the capital aims for a two‑digit gross regional domestic product increase, projecting Q2 growth above 9%, state revenue of about 411 trillion VND and public investment disbursement exceeding 64 trillion VND. The city plans to accelerate infrastructure projects, expand social housing, boost digital health services and improve education quality. Da Nẵng also pledged to overcome bottlenecks and achieve over 11% growth.

In Ho Chi Minh City, Prime Minister Lê Minh Hưng chaired a ceremony to begin a nationwide effort to locate and exhume the remains of war heroes buried at Le Thi Rieng Park. The operation, coordinated by the city People’s Committee, Military Region 7 and a national steering committee, uses radar surveys and historical records. Early excavations uncovered a 25‑metre trench containing five sets of remains, identified as a collective wartime burial site. The search will proceed in multiple phases to recover additional remains and ensure proper memorialisation.
