Vietnam's Decree 168 Sets Driver License Point Deductions

Decree 168 issued by the Vietnamese Government defines the traffic violations that lead to the removal of points from a driver’s license (GPLX). Each licence holds 12 points per year, and deductions can be 2, 4, 6 or 10 points depending on the seriousness of the infraction.

Violations include improper towing or pushing of vehicles, carrying passengers on a trailer, entering electronic toll‑only lanes without a proper device, illegal parking in prohibited zones (such as the left side of a one‑way road, near blind curves, on bridges or under overpasses), failing to secure a vehicle that has broken down at an intersection, not yielding to vehicles requesting to overtake, and a range of overtaking offences. Additional breaches cover driving on the wrong side of the road, driving in the incorrect lane, and crossing fixed road dividers. The decree also penalises drivers who do not stop at the scene of a crash, fail to preserve evidence, or do not render assistance.
