Vietnam's digital economy projected to hit $39 billion as new FDI policy stresses quality investment

Vietnam is forecast to reach a $39 billion digital economy in 2025, according to the e‑Conomy SEA 2025 report by Google, Temasek and Bain & Company. E‑commerce will account for about two‑thirds of this value, while digital payments are expected to total $178 billion, supported by roughly 30 million active e‑wallets. The country’s GDP is projected to grow 8.18% in the first half of 2026, outpacing the region and reflecting a shift toward higher‑value manufacturing, construction and services. A survey of 226 Vietnamese firms shows 85% confidence in the business outlook, with over 90% planning to expand internationally, mainly within ASEAN.

Resolution 10, Vietnam’s latest foreign‑direct‑investment framework, emphasizes quality, long‑term capital and technology transfer. British Consul‑General Alexandra Smith highlighted opportunities for green finance, renewable energy and innovation partnerships, while ABB’s Vietnam CEO Nguyen Thuy Lam Tuyen said the policy reinforces the company’s long‑term strategy. The resolution aims to attract sustainable investment that supports Vietnam’s net‑zero emissions target and human‑capital development.
