Vietnam's E10 fuel rollout faces mixed reports on vehicle performance

After the nationwide introduction of E10 gasoline in June, some owners of older, poorly maintained vehicles reported problems such as engine stalling, hard starts, and low‑speed rumbling. Experts attribute these issues to accumulated fuel‑system deposits and corrosion that can be dislodged by ethanol, recommending fuel‑filter cleaning and injector servicing for affected cars.

PVOIL, Vietnam’s second‑largest fuel retailer, said it has received no complaints of engine damage linked to E10. Officials highlighted that from 1 to 24 June the country consumed about 850 million litres of bio‑fuel, with 800 million litres being E10, and that fuel mixing, sampling and transport processes are tightly controlled. Industry representatives also noted that scientific evidence does not support claims that E10 harms engines, and that the fuel can reduce emissions when used correctly.
