Vietnam’s E10 fuel sees 800 million‑litre rollout and quality reassurance

Vietnam’s newly introduced E10 gasoline, a blend of up to 10 % ethanol, has been marketed nationwide with varying colours that do not reflect fuel quality. Experts explain that colour differences arise from the base petroleum source and additives, while ethanol itself is colourless. Quality is instead measured by octane rating, sulphur content and compliance with standards such as TCVN 8401:2024, ASTM and ISO.

In the first month of broad distribution, consumption reached about 800 million litres, representing over 94 % of total bio‑fuel sales. The Ministry of Industry and Trade reports uninterrupted supply and steady demand, aided by government resolutions that set base prices and streamline ethanol imports. Companies like PVOIL have expanded blending facilities to meet the market, and the fuel is deemed safe for vehicles produced after 2000, with older models requiring periodic fuel‑system checks. Benefits highlighted include lower emissions, reduced fuel costs and enhanced energy security by decreasing reliance on imported gasoline.
