Vietnam's Engineer Unit 5 departs for UN peacekeeping mission

Vietnam's Engineer Unit 5 has officially departed for its United Nations peacekeeping mission in the Abyei region, serving under the United Nations Interim Security Force for Abyei (UNISFA).

Deputy Minister of National Defense Nguyen Truong Thang presided over the farewell ceremony, emphasizing that participating in UN peacekeeping is an honorable duty assigned by the State and the military. He noted that previous Vietnamese engineering units have left positive impressions on local authorities and residents in Abyei, earning high praise from the UN and international colleagues.

The unit has completed pre-deployment training, focusing on the specific situation in Abyei, UN regulations, and mission requirements. The deployment is scheduled for a one-year term, with instructions for personnel to maintain absolute safety, health, and professional responsibility while representing the image of the Vietnam People's Army on the international stage.
