Vietnam's state‑owned energy firms target double‑digit growth and secure electricity supply in 2026
The Ministry of Finance met with Petrovietnam, Vietnam Electricity (EVN) and the Vietnam National Coal‑Mineral Industry Group (TKV) to set 2026 growth targets for the state‑owned energy sector. EVN projected a 9.5%‑9.6% rise in electricity production and a 14%‑15% increase in revenue, aiming for double‑digit contribution to national GDP.
In the first half of 2026 EVN reported stable supply despite record peak loads, producing roughly 171 billion kWh and meeting a national peak demand of 57,200 MW. The utility is advancing key transmission projects, expanding imports from Laos and China, and preparing infrastructure for APEC 2027.
EVN also urged consumers to adopt energy‑saving habits, recommending air‑conditioner settings around 26 °C. Officials noted that a 2% reduction in demand could offset the need for about 1,000 MW of new capacity, lowering investment costs and relieving pressure on the power system.
