Vietnam wood industry targets domestic market to sustain growth

Vietnam's agro‑forestry sector posted exports of about $42.8 billion in the first seven months of 2026, a 7.5 % year‑on‑year rise and roughly 60 % of the annual target. July alone saw $6.67 billion in sales, up 11.9 % from the previous year. Wood and timber products contributed $10.1 billion, a 4.9 % increase, while coffee exports fell more than 11 % to $5.45 billion.

Durian shipments surged, reaching nearly $1.1 billion in the first half of 2026, a 32 % jump year‑on‑year. Meanwhile, the domestic wood and furniture market is estimated at about $5 billion – roughly $50 per capita – with analysts projecting a value of $7 billion to $7.3 billion by 2030 if annual growth stays between 7 % and 9 %.

In 2025, Vietnam exported $17.3 billion of wood and related products to more than 160 overseas markets. The government aims to hit a $74 billion total agro‑forestry export target for 2026, emphasizing the need to develop a robust internal market and improve infrastructure, certification and traceability systems.
