Vietnam proposes multi‑billion‑dong infrastructure projects

The Vietnamese government is advancing several large‑scale infrastructure proposals. The Ministry of Construction presented a revised investment plan for the Lao Cai‑Hanoi‑Hai Phong railway, raising the total to about 289.3 trillion VND and adding a double‑track section from Bắc Hồng to Nam Hải Phòng with a design speed of up to 160 km/h. A separate plan for a Tam Đảo mountain tunnel linking Thái Nguyên, Phú Thọ and Hanoi calls for roughly 5.8 trillion VND, shortening the route by about 40 km and targeting construction from 2026 to 2029. The Vành đai 5 ring‑road around the capital is slated to be 349 km long, cross seven provinces, and cost around 288.3 trillion VND, with work expected between 2026 and 2030. The government also outlined a transit‑oriented development (TOD) scheme for the Ho Chi Minh City‑Cần Thơ high‑speed railway, earmarking up to 1,000 ha of land around several stations for urban, logistics and industrial use. In the south, the Châu Đốc‑Cần Thơ‑Sóc Trăng highway project, about 190 km long and valued at 44.7 trillion VND, is reporting shortages of sand and stone needed for construction. Parliamentarians have suggested installing solar‑power plants along the Vành đai 5 corridor and emphasized the need for coordinated land‑acquisition, compensation and resettlement to avoid project delays.
