Vietnam’s Hữu Liên Village Nominated for UN Best Tourism Village Award

The Hữu Liên community tourism site in Lạng Sơn province, Vietnam, features expansive grasslands, limestone mountains and free‑roaming livestock, including horses that have earned the area the nickname “mini Mongolia.” The village was selected as one of five Vietnamese representatives to submit an application for the United Nations Tourism Organization’s “Best Village Tourism” award for 2026. The other four Vietnamese nominees are Làng Lò (Đắk Lắk), Cát Cát (Lào Cai), Bảy Mẫu coconut forest (Đà Nẵng) and Măng Đen Treehouse (Quảng Ngãi). Applications are accepted from 27 February to 9 June, with evaluation in July–September and results expected in Q4.

The UN Tourism program seeks villages where tourism supports cultural preservation, biodiversity and community development. Lạng Sơn’s provincial government approved a development plan for Hữu Liên and nearby Quỳnh Sơn for 2026‑2027, targeting ecotourism and nature‑based activities. The main attraction, Dong Lam meadow, offers seasonal grassland for walking, photography, camping and horse riding, and a temporary lake in the rainy season for kayaking and fishing.
