Vietnam UN tourism village nominations

In July 2026 Vietnam selected five villages to compete for the United Nations World Tourism Organization’s “Best Rural Tourism Village” award. The nominees are Hữu Liên in Lạng Sơn Province, Cát Cát in Lào Cai Province, Làng Lò in Đắk Lắk, Bảy Mẫu Cẩm Thanh in Đà Nẵng and the Măng Đen Treehouse project in Quảng Ngãi. Hữu Liên, noted for its grassland meadow, limestone scenery and horse‑riding experiences, and Cát Cát, known for its 150‑year‑old wooden houses and traditional crafts, were highlighted in separate announcements on 25 July and 30 July. Applications are accepted through early June, with the evaluation period slated for July–September and the award results expected in the fourth quarter of 2026. The UNWTO program emphasizes cultural preservation, biodiversity, and community‑based sustainable tourism, and the Vietnamese provincial governments have approved development plans for these sites for 2026‑2027.
