Vietnam's Lai Chau troops construct homes for Muong Than flood victims

Flash floods on July 17 devastated Muong Than commune in Lai Chau province, destroying the homes of 24 families. The provincial government launched an emergency resettlement program, assigning the Lai Chau Military Command to build a new settlement for the displaced households. The 19‑billion‑VND (about $722,000) project includes 24 four‑room houses, internal roads, water, electricity and drainage, all on a 10,000 m² site in San Bay village, deemed safe from future landslides.

Deputy Prime Minister Ho Quoc Dũng inspected the site on July 21, urging the military to accelerate work. Lieutenant General Le Quang Dao, Deputy Chief of the General Staff, pledged that all houses would be finished before August 30. About 150 officers and soldiers, equipped with heavy machinery, are working around the clock to meet the deadline.
