Vietnam's Mekong Delta pushes for faster transport infrastructure investment
Voters from several Mekong Delta provinces, including Cà Mau and An Giang, submitted joint petitions to the central government and the Ministry of Construction, urging the allocation of additional resources to complete the region’s transport network. They highlighted fragmented road and waterway connections, delayed or unfinished projects, and the resulting impact on daily life and regional economic growth.
The Ministry of Construction responded that recent years have seen accelerated investment and pledged to work with provinces to resolve material shortages, land‑acquisition issues, and to seek new funding for projects such as the North‑South highways (Cần Thơ‑Hậu Giang‑Cà Mau, Mỹ An‑Cao Lanh, Cao Lanh‑An Hữu, Châu Đốc‑Cần Thơ‑Sóc Trăng) and coastal and inland logistics corridors. A voter remarked, "Hạ tầng giao thông của ĐBSCL nhiều năm nay chịu áp lực lớn, nhưng mức độ đầu tư chưa theo kịp vì những lý do khách quan."
