Vietnam's My Tâm and Others Push for Legal Action on AI Deepfakes

On June 26, Vietnamese singer My Tâm posted on her official fan page that several images and videos of her circulating online had been fabricated using artificial‑intelligence (AI) technology. Her team stressed that the content was entirely false and warned that creators or distributors of such deepfakes could face legal liability. "MTE – công ty của Mỹ Tâm khẳng định đây là những nội dung hoàn toàn giả mạo, không phản ánh sự thật," the statement read, calling on the public to verify information before sharing.

Separately, a fabricated AI‑generated photo of a supposed Swedish nurse named Inês attracted more than 65,000 engagements on Facebook. Fact‑checkers in Sweden found the image and the accompanying emotional story were entirely fictitious. Investigation traced the originating fan page to an email address with a Vietnamese domain, exposing a network that publishes similar AI‑crafted content in multiple languages. Experts note that as AI tools improve, distinguishing real from fake becomes increasingly difficult, prompting calls for greater vigilance and accountability.

Both incidents illustrate the growing problem of AI‑created deepfakes in Vietnam and beyond, and the demand for legal measures to protect individuals and the integrity of online information.
