Nghệ An medical clinic fraud scheme busted, 10 suspects charged

Police in Nghệ An province have charged ten individuals connected to the Y học Nghệ An multi‑disciplinary clinic for fraud. Investigators say the group fabricated illnesses, exaggerated patients' health problems and forced patients to purchase costly treatment packages worth tens of billions of đồng. Tactics included “drawing” diseases, inflating risks of infertility or cancer, and using deceptive procedures such as injecting soy‑milk into the urethra or applying ointments to simulate severe infections.

The scheme, operating since September 2024, employed doctors, medical staff and unqualified personnel under a corporate licence. Earlier inspections by the provincial Health Department had already resulted in multiple fines totaling over 86 million đồng and temporary suspension of the clinic’s licence. The recent police operation culminated in a criminal indictment under Article 196 of the Penal Code for deceiving customers. The case has drawn public outrage and prompted tighter oversight of private health facilities in the province.
