Vietnam's Phu Quoc Island Sets Record International Visitor Numbers, Surpassing Maldives

In the first seven months of 2026, Phú Quôc Island welcomed more than 6.8 million tourists, a 30.36% rise over the same period a year earlier. International arrivals exceeded 1.5 million, up 53.49%, and tourism revenue was projected at about 36.447 trillion Vietnamese dong, covering roughly 69% of the annual target.

The surge means Phú Quôc has overtaken the Maldives, which recorded just over 1.04 million international visitors in the same half‑year and saw a 5% decline. The island’s growing appeal is reflected in multiple accolades, including a place in Expedia’s Top 10 islands worldwide, second‑place in the DestinAsian Readers’ Choice Awards 2026, and a ranking as the second‑best island in Asia‑Pacific by Travel + Leisure.

The growth is attributed to expanded infrastructure, increased flight connectivity and stronger international branding, drawing visitors from South Korea, India, China, Russia and many European nations.
