Vietnam's Phu Tho Police clarify driving licence penalties

The traffic police department of Phu Tho province released information to help Vietnamese drivers distinguish between two forms of licence sanctions. In the first six months of the year, traffic police recorded 114,874 traffic‑law violations, revoked the licence of 1,738 drivers for a limited period, and deducted points from 13,896 licences.

Revocation is an additional penalty applied to serious offences; drivers whose licence is revoked may not operate the vehicle category that was taken away, and any further attempts to drive are subject to new sanctions. The point‑system assigns each licence 12 points; points are deducted according to the nature and severity of the offence. When all 12 points are lost, the driver must pass a legal‑knowledge test before the licence can be restored. Police urged the public to understand these rules, obey traffic regulations, avoid drunk driving and speeding, and keep proper documentation, offering guidance through digital platforms.
